Development and validation of new methods to capture maladaptive patterns of behaviour, thought and emotion regulation
Current developments in nosology and diagnostics of mental illnesses increasingly assume a strong mutual influence and overlap traditionally as separately defined "axis I" and "axis II" symptoms. In addition, the findings on the variability of classical personality traits such as neuroticism are condensed by clinical-psychological interventions. The aim of this project is to develop short and reliable assessments that can capture maladaptive patterns of thinking, behaviour and emotion regulation that are close to one's personality on the basis of the "Personality Functioning" defined in ICD-11 and DSM-5. Not only questionnaire methods should be used, but also algorithm-based evaluation of e.g. sentiments or emotional granularity. It is assumed that these personal maladaptive patterns (also called "schemata") play a central role in the development and remission of mental illnesses and moderate the course of treatment in clinical-psychological interventions.
