New paper on memory and forgetting in collaboration with the Ryan Lab at Trinity College Dublin: "Natural forgetting reversibly modulates engram expression" in eLife. This project is led by Dr. James O'Leary from the Ryan Lab and links memory engram cell ensembles with the process of forgetting in mice. We have examined whether forgetting is governed by changes in engram plasticity and suggest that it helps animals prioritize relevant memory representations for adaptive behavior. The project combines behavioral experiments, optogenetics, engram labeling, pharmacology, and computational modeling.
