Magnetic Resonance Imaging Laboratory
The core of the MRI lab is a 3T Siemens MAGNETOM Prisma fit magnetic resonance imaging scanner. The MRI lab provides multiple systems for visual, auditory and tactile stimulation, as well as possibilities for additional physiological recordings. The MRI lab is open for both researchers based at the Freie Universität Berlin and external users. Scanner operator training is offered for users affiliated with the Freie Universität Berlin.
MR scanner
3T MAGNETOM Prisma fit MR scanner (Siemens, Erlangen), with 32-channel and 64-channel receiver head coils set up for functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI), Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI), Anatomical Imaging and Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy. In addition to standard implementations of these techniques we also provide a number of novel cutting-edge applications. Please contact our physicist team for the latest developments.
Stimulation and response collection
The MR scanner is equipped with a virtual Entertainment System VisuaStim Digital (Resonance Technology) incl. Headphones and 3D-LCD Glasses, Beamer, and a high resolution and high luminosity MR monitor for visual stimulation. For somatosensory stimulation, a tactile stimulation device (Piezostimulator, Quaerosys) and an electrical stimulation device (DS5, Digitimer) are available. Standard MR response pad buttons are available for manual response recording. Additionally, the lab is equipped with a grip-force acquisition setup (fORP 932), a touchscreen set-up including the stylus-pen (Magic Touch, Keytec), and a foot pedal.
Eye-tracking and physiological recordings
The MR scanner is equipped with a high-speed binocular Eyetracking System (Eye Link 1000, SR Research) and a 60 Hz monocular eye-tracking system (VisuaStim). Further, ECG recording (ExG MR 16, Brain Products), skin conductance measurements (ExG MR 16, Brain Products), and pulse oxymetry and respiration monitoring are possible.
Concurrent EEG-fMRI
Simultaneous acquisition of EEG and fMRI data is possible with a 32-channel EEG system (Brainamp MR 32, Brain Products)
