"The social and perceptual components of decision confidence"
Understanding the cognitive basis of decision confidence is one of the (currently more fashionable) holy grails of cognitive neuroscience. In my talk, I will provide some empirical support for the view that attempting to understand decision confidence (and perhaps more generally, metacognition) as a purely perceptual or value-driven phenomenon - without addressing its social functions and implications - is going to miss out on very interesting insights about human decision making.
